What is an Escape Room?

Is the term "escape room" new to you? If so, read on to learn what an escape room is and why should give one a try!

As the escape room industry grows more and more people are discovering how enjoyable the experience is.

So what is an Escape Room? According to the all knowing resource known as Wikipedia:

"An escape room is a physical adventure game in which players solve a series of puzzles using clues, hints and strategy to complete the objectives at hand. Players are given a set time limit to unveil the secret plot which is hidden within the rooms."

I tend to think of them as an extensions of the old-school Point & Click Adventures games I grew up with.

Games such as Loom and especially the King's Quest series occupied an hour or 100 of my child hood.

The games revolved around utilizing your surrounds in order to solve puzzles and proceed through the game.

A seemingly meaningless note left on a desk could in fact contain a code or clue vital to unlock the next section.

Escape Rooms are quite similar. The main, and obvious, difference lies within the fact that you are the character.

Instead of utilizing a mouse/pointer in a virtual space you physical interact with your surrounds.

A variety of puzzles find their way in to Escape Rooms. They will often interact with different areas of the brain. Some will require the ability to decipher a message via Cipher Wheels or Enigma Machines.

Others will test your ability to discover hidden or secret messages. Mazes which need to be solved in order to free a code or key are also quite popular.
